Further improvement works at Widnes Cemetery are beginning, with the project expected to be completed within 12–15 weeks, you can see what these are on the plan below.
The scheme forms part of the Council’s Cemetery Infrastructure Programme and will focus on upgrading the main entrance roads and surrounding areas to create a more accessible, greener environment for visitors.
Key improvements will include new and upgraded permeable footpaths, the introduction of parking bays, and a clearer one-way system to improve traffic flow. Some areas of hard paving will be reduced and replaced with soft landscaping, alongside increased planting of trees, shrubs, and bulbs to enhance the appearance of the cemetery and increase biodiversity.
The project will also improve drainage across the site and enhance important locations such as the Cross of Sacrifice and the Catholic Chapel, creating a more dignified and reflective setting.
These works aim to ensure Widnes Cemetery remains a peaceful, accessible place of remembrance, while delivering long-term environmental benefits for the local community
