A variety of regeneration projects are now taking shape in Runcorn town centre with steelwork and new building works spreading across the High Street.
Led by your Labour Council with a number of partners the seven projects will collectively improve the lives and livelihoods of local people and boost the local economy.
The Council’s Deputy Leader Cllr Dave Thompson, explained, “Things are now really taking shape and we can expect a range of new facilities to be accessible to residents from next year. Your Labour Council continues to look for opportunities to attract investment into our borough and the delivery of the seven projects in the town centre show just what can be achieved working in partnership with other organisations and the local community”.
The extension of the Brindley is set to be completed in 2026. It will include a new library and extended facilities as well as a restaurant and just up the road from the Council’s award winning venue is the planned Creative and Digital Skills Centre in the old Camden Buildings. Dave continued, “we have already attracted local community organisations who are anxious to occupy the new premises and it will be a superb new facility for the town alongside the Hazelhurst Studios which is now in its third year. There will be a provision for youth in the building also as well as high quality spaces in the High Street for artists and creative enterprise”.
Work is now also advanced on the construction of Mercia Place, the new accommodation scheme for over 55s that’s been developed at the top of High Street by Halton Housing. Cllr Rosie Leck added, “The transformation of the High Street is quite remarkable and we have brought together an important group of partners to work with the Council and in some cases to lead of projects. We are leasing the former library building in Granville Street and this will become a new Health and Education Hub, where residents can gain access to some NHS services and opportunities for learning. We have worked closely with Riverside College and the Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust to bring forward this project”.
Rosie and Dave are both members of the new Runcorn Town Neighbourhood Board and it is expected further updates will be given as projects develop.
