Your Labour Council has this month committed to a four year programme of works to improve Widnes Cemetery.

Cllr Paul Nolan, the Council’s Executive Board Member with responsibility for Environmental Services said, “Widnes cemetery is an important place in the town, much cherished by so many families as it’s the resting place for generations of local people. Much of the fabric of the cemetery is Victorian and the roads, and grounds are showing wear and tear and the Council intends to undertake a rolling programme of repairs over the coming 4 years to undertake refurbishment.”

Expected works at Widnes and at cemeteries in Runcorn include repairs to roadways, paths, walls and drainage works.  Cllr  Nolan continued, “Widnes cemetery is an important part of the town’s heritage and it is important that works get underway to make improvements to the cemetery. The cemetery is a very historic place in the town with a considerable number of burials having been undertaken of soldiers, sailors and airmen who lost their lives during two world wars”.

We expect to provide further updates in the future as work in the cemetery gets underway.
