Your Labour Council has this month committed to a four year programme of works to improve both Runcorn Cemetery and the small cemetery at Holt Lane, Halton.
Cllr Paul Nolan, the Council’s Executive Board Member with responsibility for Environmental Services said, “Both cemeteries are important to the town. Local cemeteries are much cherished by the families of the bereaved and it’s only fitting that we look to undertake repairs and improvements.”
Much of the fabric of the older parts of Runcorn cemetery is Victorian and the pathways and grounds are showing considerable signs of wear and tear which Cllr Nolan reports requires the need to undertake a rolling programme of repairs over the coming 4 years. Expected works at Runcorn and Halton cemeteries include repairs to roadways, paths, walls and drainage works. Cllr Rosie Leck said, “Runcorn cemetery is an important part of the town’s heritage and I am delighted we have committed to undertaking work to make improvements to the cemetery. The cemetery at Greenway Road is a very historic place in the town”.
We expect to provide further updates in the future as work in the cemetery gets underway.
