Cllr Mark Dennett this week provided a fresh update on a range of development projects that are now taking shape in Runcorn.
Mark has been Labour’s local Co-ordinator for Pride in Place for the Bridgewater Ward and is set to be our candidate for the ward in the local elections being held on the 7th May.
Mark said, “This year the town will receive a huge boost as projects Labour has championed finally come to fruition. The High Street in particular is being transformed with the Brindley extension now almost complete. The much expanded Brindey will see a new library and other services all being accommodated – providing one of the best entertainment venues in the country. A new Digital Centre and Youth Facility will also soon to be opened on High Street. I have been very proud to have championed investment in the town centre and will continue to press for local investments.”
Amongst the many local projects benefitting from investment has been the support for Unlock Runcorn – who are delivering the first stage of a scheme to unlock the Bridgewater Canal. Mark added, “The Bridgewater Canal runs right through Bridgewater Ward and I know many residents in the ward walk the towpath regularly. It is a key route in the ward and I if I am elected I am keen to champion more improvements along the canalside.”
Mark Dennett has played a prominent role at Halton Council in backing the Labour Council’s bid for Pride in Place funding from the Government. He said, “The Labour Government has now allocated an extra £20 million for Runcorn as part of its Pride in Place programme and exciting new plans are still to come and I will be doing all I can to ensure any further plans benefit residents in Bridgewater Ward.”
Mark pushes for health improvements and care for our most vulnerable
Improving health for Bridgewater Ward residents continues to be at the heart of labour’s agenda for a better borough.
Mark Dennett has over 20 years’ experience as a Councillor in Runcorn and is set to contest the local elections on the 7th May as Labour’s candidate for Bridgewater Ward.
Mark said, “Labour has a long history of defending our NHS. In 2024 we helped secure a new Health Hub at Shopping City and this year a second Health Hub will open in the Old Town – placing residents in the Bridgewater Ward between the two facilities – providing access to a range of expanded health services that residents might have previously travelled out of town to receive. I am been pushing for this added Health facility and if elected in May will continue to push for better access to health facilities.”
Mark sets his sights on Bridgewater Ward
Labour has revealed that its candidate for the Bridgewater Ward is experienced Councillor Mark Dennett.
Cllr Stef Nelson said, “I am delighted we have Mark as our candidate in the local elections being held on the 7th May because he is one of the Council’s most experienced Councillors and
it would be a huge boost to the ward to have Mark serving the interests of local residents here in Bridgewater Ward.”
Mark has local connections with the area with family living locally. He has 21 years’ experience as a Councillor in Runcorn and has established over that time a strong reputation as someone who works hard for residents. He is married with a son and is employed as a Local Government Officer. Mark serves on Halton Council’s Executive Board where he leads work on managing the Council’s finances, and prior to this he was the Mayor of Halton in 2022/23. He is a long-standing Governor of local schools in Runcorn and a former Director of Halton Housing Trust. Mark is still the Chair of Trustees of the local charity Halton Play Council that supports young people and families in your community.
Given his breadth of skills and experience we believe Mark will make a powerful advocate for people in the Bridgewater Ward and we are delighted he wants to represent your community and its best interests.
